Inspired Journal pages

I had some friends come over on the weekend and we had a great time playing and talking about art and creativity. Have any of you read "Living The Creative Life" by Rice Freeman~Zachary? The eye candy is fabulous and it is a great read. She really gives you some things to think about. What is success? As an artist I always thought it was making money from your art but is that really a good measure?
And she gives you some tips for letting your creative muse out.
The "S" is a collage of text. It is interesting how the word music stood out so strongly amongst all the other words. What is with that?

I am celebrating my 100 post and will be posting soon about a give away. Keep your eyes peeled for a post coming soon to a theater near you. LOL!

Prince Oliver Gollath

I met Prince Oliver in the woods. His personality makes up for his diminutive size. He is a wise and happy. Not all trolls I have met are. Most of them are just like you would think, kind of grumpy, but not Oliver. We chatted for a bit and he came for a visit. A very interesting troll indeed.

A new journal spread with Stellars Jay feathers. We have 2 flying about the area with no tails. I think they have had close calls with a hawk that has also been seen around here a fair bit.

Northern BC Part III

Along the Cranberry Junction Road to New Aiyansh. Every thing is golden such beautiful warm fall light and the deciduous trees making a spectactular senery for my road trip from Stewart.

The Lava beds of New Aiyansh. A small volcano erupted about 200 years ago Killing around 2,000 native peoples. I was amazed at the vastness of the lava beds. Acres and acres of it. It has lots of lichens and moss growing on it but not much more.

Northern Region Part II

This is a triple combo done in Photoshop. The back door of the Inn I stayed at, along with my photo of a little black bear and finally with an overlay of the map of Stewart.

Stewart BC has so much character but I can only imagine what a wild town it was back at the turn of the century! This was the town Brothel called Gunnanoot is has been converted to rooms for the Ripley Creek Inn and you can stay there. You could also take a cruiser bike from the Inn any time you wanted and go for a spin around town. This is the front of the Brothel.

The back entrance is a bit more original . . .

Quite the chariot don't you think? The town fire truck parked outside the original hall.

The old fire hall is now the town Museum.

The original Stewart Hotel, now abandon. Wow it would be cool to peek inside, eh? It has a ton of rooms in it.

Just outside town is the Bear Glacier.

Still more pictures to come.

Trip to Northern BC ~ Part One

I had to travel on business to Stewart BC this past week and took along my camera to capture my adventures. Stewart is at the very end of the Alaska pan handle and the Portland Canal. One of the deepest ice free canals making it an important port that is available in the winter. I was very lucky with the weather and got a fair amount of sunshine and warm, calm days. I flew to Terrace and then got a drive up the rest of the way to Stewart. Here is a map showing Terrace, Stewart and the surrounding area. We stopped briefly in the village of Gitanyow and I got to see the totems there. Gitanyow is a village that Emily Carr visited in 1930 and painted the very totems that I saw.
They were mesmerizing to see the detail so close.

The background of deciduous trees just starting to turn yellow just glowed in the fall light was beautiful.
Stewart is a very small town with one main street where all the shops are. I stayed at the Ripley Creek Inn that was a collection of old heritage buildings that are being updated and converted with modern conveniences. It had an awesome atmosphere and the back looked out over the estuary with the mountains towering on all sides. Here is the front of my hotel.
And this is what is out back.
I walked out on the boardwalk to get this shot. My hotel is to the left and the Portland canal is to the right. I believe this is Mt Rainy.
