The Whole Layout

I found the feathers just on my patio. I am not sure exactly what they are from but whatever it is, it is really small. The lettering is done with a gold pen on walnut ink and has lots of sparkle in person. It doesn't come across on line. :(

Playing with my new portrait in Photoshop

Francesca

Inspired to do a portrait. I like where its at but it may not be finished. :)

The sun is shining and the Jazz is playing. . . ahhhh the weekend.

Surprise! Journalling again :)

Hugh Jackman as a cowboy in a romantic adventure, sigh . . . I gotta see that one! LOL Found images in of Hugh from the local paper. Background inspired by van Gogh's Haystacks, done with light molding paste and acrylics and pastels, riders an old photo from the praires that my mother in law took and the theatre picture too.
In progress painting. Will be a center spread from my new journal that is not stitched together yet. Inspired by Brittani Faulkes and a photo of the Ucluelet Lighthouse on a webcam site.

Playing with new colours of acrylic paints and a new tool, a metal spatula thingy. I REALLY like it! I love using a credit card and this is better because it fits in my paint jars and its it metal so it is easy to clean.

Inpired by Aries

My friend Marilyn posted a challenge for a give away on her blog. The challenge was to make an ATC (artist trading card) Inspired by Aries the Barred Owl. This is my ATC the photo is by my DH Tim who is an amazing photographer. The owl in my ATC visited our yard recently and Tim was able to get some shots of him. He was very close to the house sleeping in a fir tree not far above our heads. It was so neat to see him so close up and personal. I transfered the image to watercolour paper with soft gel and then used pastels around the bird and glued on some scraps of this silk paper embossed with gold dots. Cheers

More on Kabuki

This spread was calling me back for more to be done on it. I went along for the ride. :)

Inspired on a Sunday

I was browsing through old issues of Somerset Studio and came across and article on David Mack. Wow Cool stuff! I was inspired to do some art after reading and looking at his fantastic art. He produces a comic called Kabuki. I would love to get a copy of one of his comics.

Soft Trees

I was inspired after look at the art of Brittani Faulkes to try a pastel of some funky soft round trees. I have a variety of pastels that I am having fun experimenting with, Sticks hard and soft, Pans and Charcoal Pencils. I love how you can blend colours. and make the shading very light or very dramatic. I am not sure what I was expecting but I am liking them more than I thought I would. Hey cool its already Friday. :) Have a great weekend everyone! Cheers Pattio

Postcard Swap

I joined a postcard swap. This is my first of three. I painted a half sheet of watercolour paper with gesso and textured it and then layered on earthy shades of fluid acrylic paints. That is a real ginkgo leaf that I gold leafed. The Chinese Characters are Peace and Clarity. I love fall colours but I am soooooo looking forward to spring. :)

Portraits in pastels

adding a ruby's portrait to my journal. I had a band of ochre honeycombs to start. I don't know Ruby but she is inspired by the beautiful portrait Anne Bagby did in the "True Colors" book by Stampington. She was working in Keely Barham's black journal. It is still one of my favorite books. Not sure where my journal spread will go from here. A quote maybe. Did I tell you I love my journals lately? I couldn't live with out them now. :) I find they are becoming more an expression of me the more I work in them.

Unexplainable

Here is a challenge I sent to Anonova and Mergatroid. The image below came in an email to me with the caption " This just can't be explained."
I thought it was so humorous and that there must be lots of stories that could explain what it going on here, so the challenge ensued and here is my rendition. (grins)
Nathan
What a cutie pie! Here he is on his wedding day with his best mans gift. Nathan is so happy because he thought it wasn’t going to arrive in time, but the UPS guy came through big time! Even though they closed the road due to the building of the new Murphy Bridge, George broke through the barrier and fly through the mud right to Nathan’s door. Poor George gunned it right at the end only to pop out with unexpected traction shooting him right into the flower bed. The cops were wondering what the heck all the fuss was about and all had their thinking caps on trying to figure out now how to get George’s van out of the flowers??? Nathan could care a less because he could now present the Bertina 1000 to Sam his best man. You see Nathan made his tux himself entirely on the Bertina 1000 and Sam was so impressed he wanted to start sewing too! The day was going to be perfect after all!!!

Sketching live

Ok, for the first time I tried sketching in public of living models. I have been really insecure about my drawing abilities so this is a big deal for me. The likeness is not there but the fact that I could do this in front of others is a break through for me. Baby steps, deep breaths. Phew I did it. :)
We went to a pub last night and saw the band Mid Life Crisis and I really enjoyed their performance. So nice to get out and see some live music. :)

This is not from a live model. Ha ha
