Handmade art journals

I love handmade art journals! I am not as keen about making them as I am working in them. I do it because I love the results. The ultimate custom work for your own needs is pretty hard to beat.

This first one was inspired by a pad of beautiful Italian paper I bought in a pad. It is a lovely ivory colour and has a deckled edge. I simply folded it in half and used the full size of the sheet.

I painted the outside sheet of each signature with my Gelli plate in fresh spring colours and used the Coptic stitch to bind it. The covers are birch panels from the art store and it was also painted with the Gelli plate.

This journal is made to explore using Yupo. Yupo is a synthetic paper made from resin. The cover is actually Terraskin which is a similar paper made from limestone and resin only thicker.  This cover was also painted using my trusty Gelli plate. The strap is just a left over scrap of the Terraskin. I used the long stitch binding method for this journal.

Round Gelli plate fun

This is going to be my new art journal. Its a 24 x 36" sheet of print making paper.

Inspired by the new 8" round gelli plate.

I used my Catalyst tools and wall paper to create patterns on the gelli plate with fluid acrylic paint and then transferred them to the paper.

This is the back side.

I then cut the paper in four and made a simple pamphlet fold book.

Gelli plate play

I used the Gelli plate on my canvas to add colour and texture. It started off with skeletons of Magnolia leaves. Not sure where this one is going next. Hmmmmm.

Next is a series of loose sheets. 

This first one is my favorite. I love the purple and gold together.

I am thinking the rest of these loose sheets will be folded and bound into a new journal.

I have started a journal about herbs. This is a big one 9 x 12 inches. My herb garden is doing so well I am harvesting lots not only for the table but also for salves and tinctures. This new journal to do keep track of recipes as well as for some illustrations and other documentations.

Gone Wild with the Gelli-plate

Kell and I had a glorious art date yesterday! We got the Gelli-plate out and played and played. I completely filled my 3.75x5.5 inch Moleskine with Gelli Prints using acrylic paint. All 80 pages!

Also used Ginko leaves and bubble wrap on this one.

Love the way the colours blend on the Gelli plate.

I used several journals not just the Moleskine. You can see the wire binding from my other journal.
