Meet Spot

Spot is stuffie number two. He is about 30 cm or 12 inches tall. He is not quite finished yet. His tail is not attached and I may still give him a mouth. After all a dog needs to woof! He is a Canvas Terrier. :)

I am going to be working on siding my art studio and some other projects and may not be posting very much in the next while. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekends.

My First Stuffie

Here is my Quail stuffie, hanging out where our quails hang out. It is canvas that I painted with my new favorite tool bubble wrap and sequence waste, then I hand stitched it and stuffed it with polyfill. He has a coiled wire top not and fancy chopsticks for legs.

My friend Anne and her daughter Marian came over on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and we had a lot of fun making things. I can't wait to see how theirs turn out!
Cheers

New Journal

This is my new journal. It is just a wire bound one but it has really nice quality paper inside that can be watercoloured on. I covered it with ordinary masking tape and then painted it using a palette knife. I covered the wire with a piece of canvas that I pre-painted and stamped on the words art and journal. I haven't decided what will embellish the center yet. It feels like it should be a Celtic knot. I like the old gnarly feel to it so far. :)

Disintegration Papers

I started this spread months ago and then just left it. Last night I came back to it and more today. I think its finished now. The door opens and there is a nude warrior facing away from you. over the doorway is says "souls recognize each other". There is a strip of the black masking tape below the doorway.
I bought the black masking tape at the art store here in Victoria and it is labeled as being Premium PH neutral masking tape so I don't think you could find it in a hardware store. On the wrapper the company name is Art Alternatives. I am a tape freak and have never seen it in our hardware stores and this is the first time I saw it in the art store. Pat was asking if I ever used passe partout. The name sure doesn't ring a bell. The closest thing I remember was Lettra-tape which was a drafting supply.

Black Masking Tape

I have never seen black masking tape before today. It is super cool! I added it to both of these journal pages.

A rare glimpse of the Jellyglian

I am working on large canvases and this one is 18 x 24" At least this is very large for me.
I started off with a blob of titanium white and then dobbed off some paint with my paper towel and then dobbed it back on which created some neat textures. After a light wash of gold fluid acrylics and some walnut ink I stood back and saw this creature Its a very rare Jellyglian. It lives deep down on the ocean floor and hides in caves. I was trying to stay out of the muses way and just went with it.

This is the start of the Jellyglian.

Illuminated Final

I went a different way (surprise, surprise) than my original idea of just blackletter text. The background paint had this flow to it that I found to hard to resist so I just went with it. Then I decided I wanted some images, smallish ones. The first one was oval shape and I really like how that fit in with the flow. I had a stencil from the first one so I used it to make an oval painted background for 3 of the images (horses, car and grandpa) and after that I had this picture of my brother on his wedding day, looking awfully sweet with is new bride after cutting it into a heart shape and pasteling on pink to it, I placed it so it was bursting up from the flow. :) Next came the teal dots using sequence waste and the last step was a beaded black edge around the Illuminated H. Ok, I think this one is done.

Teal painted Hawk feather

I painted out the white on the quill part of the feather to Teal. Interesting, No? I rephotographed the pages in better light which helps show off the details better than the previous post of this journal spread.

Illuminating

Testing out what the text would look like in Photoshop.
This is a canvas spread I am working on in my Hat Journal. I took a calligraphy class a million years ago and we did Lombardic Versals and decorated letters. I got inspired to do a decorated letter with acrylics and its has turned into a mixed media decorated Versal with my own twist on it. The canvas was prepped with Gesso and I mixed black and white with my palette knife to get various greys.

Next I want to add text of a big list of hat styles and types. Then I dunno . . .

Collage in 10 minutes

This started off as a collage in 10 minutes and then I got lost in layers of paper and paint and well it took a bit longer than 10 minutes.

I found 2 hawk feathers on my birthday. Thank you Mr Hawk. More work in Teal and Chocolate.

The right side is the collaborative paper we mad at the mad hatters tea party plus some added embellishments.

Birthday Bucket

A whole bucket of flowers from the farmers market for 10 bucks!
For my birthday Tim made an awesome dinner of Spinach salad, Salmon and curry mashed potatoes with veggies with Billy Rock Shiraz wine and for desert fresh strawberry pie and whipped cream. We sat out on the patio and ate. It was a gorgeous evening. :)
