What lies ahead

Kell came out today and we had a lot of fun arting in my studio. I was playing and goofing around in my Handbook Journal. As usual I was mixing my media including but not limited to a hand carved stamp, a bunch of purchased rubber stamps, Pan Pastels, water soluble oil pastels, stamp pads, water colour crayons, a Pilot Parallel pen and gel pens.

I have not posted much lately because I have been distracted with a big new non art project. Here is a peek at it. I have to sort through my images and make a new post about what I have been up too really soon. More to come . . .

Happy Year of the Rabbit

This flying bunny is done in watercolours in my Hand book.

Chinese New Year is Feb 3 and it will be Year of the Rabbit.

Seth Apter has a wonderful blog with lot of collaborative art. I participated in "The Pulse" in which he solicited a large group of artists to find out what they were up to and in to. The latest addition is Collections and I am in the latest group shown here. Thanks Seth for all your inspirations to make a community for mixed media artists. :)

I have been playing around with lots of techniques and ideas and having a blast in my journals.

Background is done in acrylics the girl drawn with ink dropper, then I coloured her with Pan Pastels.

Revisited journal cover adding lots of textures.

Used paper towels, bees wax, ripped text pages and a stencil.

Tracing over images pressing really hard to de-boss my journal page underneath and then using Pan Pastels to highlight the lines. FUN!

More Journal pages.

This was done as a background with acrylic paint and bubble wrap an then I added umber paint. Later when I went back and looked at it I saw this horse and painting in the negative space I uncovered the horse so others could also see.

Chinese Zodiac Going Postal Journal

It took 12 years but I now have all 12 in the collection of Chinese Zodiac postage stamps by Canada Post. I don't have it absolutely complete. Each year they issue two First Day Covers, A regular local stamp and an international stamp and a souvenir sheet, but I have at least 2 items for every symbol. I reserved this journal I made with my most favorite Japanese paper just for this purpose. Its funny Once I had the whole collection I was getting overwhelmed at the thought of starting in it. Well I am finally over that now and working away in it.

The first issue stamp was Year of the Ox. Here is the souvenir sheet and a regular stamp. I copied the background colours for my background too. Somewhere I found a rubber stamp of it and the Buddha is my own photo from my garden.

I got inspired to do a portrait. What can I say I am still learning! The red maple is also my photo from my garden and at the bottom the Year of the Tiger stamp.

Then follows the 2 First Day covers for Year of the Tiger.

Year of the bunny is next. I had fun with paint on this spread. It is very rich in person and this one particularly doesn't translate to the screen at all.

Adding Textured Frames to my journal

I rummaged through my textured papers and played around with painting them to enhance the textures. This was a fun exercise and I love textures!

I also used stencils and light moulding paste to add textures.
And here is a library pocket I covered with some beautiful paper and it turns out just the right size for ATC's. :)

Pears in Pastels

Playing around with pastels again. When I started watercolouring I did lots of pears. This is my first ones in pastel and I did it in my journal. My name is done with ruling pen. Yah its Friday! The weekend is almost here.
